Finance Apprentice

We have an exciting opportunity for a Finance Apprentice to join the Mowbray Education Trust Central Services Finance Team on a full time, all year round, fixed term basis up to 24 months.  This is an excellent opportunity to gain experience of working in Finance and gaining a Level 2 or Level 3 Association of Accounting Technicians’ Assistant Accountant qualification.

Finance Apprentice

We have an exciting opportunity for a Finance Apprentice to join the Mowbray Education Trust Central Services Finance Team.  This is an excellent opportunity to gain experience of working in Finance and gaining a Level 2 or Level 3 Association of Accounting Technicians’ Assistant Accountant qualification.

The role is 37 hours per week, Monday to Friday all year round, with annual leave to be taken during school closure periods.  There will be a split between working within the Finance function (80%) and having allocated time to complete your course (20%).

This role is fixed term for a period of up to a maximum of 24 months or until the apprenticeship is completed, whichever is sooner (this is subject to a satisfactory 6-month probationary period).

At the end of the apprenticeship, you will be able to apply for any vacancies available at that time.

Role Overview

To be successful in this role you will have GCSE English and Maths at Grade 4 (C) or above, as well as excellent administration and prioritisation skills. A high level of accuracy and attention to detail are essential to the Finance Apprentice role, as well as good communication and problem-solving skills. You will also need to be able to assimilate new information quickly and work in an environment that is fast paced with competing demands. Along with strong IT skills including Microsoft Excel and Outlook, you will be able to manage your own workload and respond swiftly to tight deadlines.

You will work as part of a team to ensure the timely and accurate processing of all the Trust’s financial transactions, whilst supporting all schools across the Trust and responding to day-to-day queries from colleagues. You will be responsible for all aspects of bookkeeping, including sales and purchase ledger input, reconciliations and nominal ledger administration.

About the Mowbray Education Trust

The Mowbray Education Trust (MET) is a multi-academy trust currently educating around 2,500 children from the age of 2 to 16 in the town of Melton Mowbray and surrounding villages in the Borough of Melton.  The MET currently has one secondary school, five primary schools and one pre-school: with potential numerical and geographical growth in the future.

Melton Mowbray is a rural market town in Leicestershire which is easily commutable from Grantham, Leicester, Loughborough, Nottingham and Oakham.

The MET has a central support services team, with staff managing Estates, Finance, HR, IT and Operations, across our schools.  The central team are based at offices within John Ferneley College in Melton Mowbray.

The remuneration package includes a competitive salary, contributory public-sector pension scheme and a generous annual leave entitlement:

  • Actual Salary £9,286.30 per annum in the first year (£4.81 per hour – National Minimum Wage for Apprentices) - rising in the second year to age related National Minimum Wage/National Living Wage).
  • Local Government Pension Scheme membership
  • 31 days annual leave per year including public holidays
