We have an exciting new opportunity at John Ferneley College for a School Reception/Administrator Apprentice to join the team
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a School Reception/Administration Apprentice to work at John Fernley College. This is an excellent opportunity to gain experience of working in a school environment and gaining a Level 3 apprenticeship in Business Administration delivered by Nottingham College.
This role is working 37 hours a week, Monday to Thursday 8:30 – 4:30pm and Fridays, 8:30am – 4:00pm for 39 weeks per year (term time only plus the 5 INSET days).
This role is fixed term for a period of up to a maximum of 21 months or until the apprenticeship is completed, whichever is sooner – (this is subject to a satisfactory 6-month probationary period).
Over the duration of the 21 months, the apprenticeship will be split working alongside colleagues on the school reception (80%) and the rest will be allocated to complete the apprenticeship (approx. 20%). This will be completed all remotely online and all learning including the theory and knowledge will be delivered every week or every other week by Training Officers via Microsoft Teams. The assessor will then attend the college for face-to-face meetings with the apprentice to track their progress.
At the end of the apprenticeship, you will be able to apply for any vacancies available at that time.
The role of School Reception/Administrator Apprentice will include the following tasks:
- Communicating and liaising with parents/guardians, staff, students and visitors to the school.
- Providing routine clerical support e.g., photocopying, filing, emailing, sort and distribute mail daily.
- Maintaining manual and computerised records/management information systems.
- To support the reprographics needs across the school (e.g., printing, laminating, stapling), where appropriate.
You will have GCSE English and Maths at Grade 4 (C) or above. You will have good communication and problem-solving skills, with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail. Along with a good level of IT skills including Outlook and Office, you will be able to manage your own workload and respond swiftly to tight deadlines.
About the Mowbray Education Trust
The Mowbray Education Trust (MET) is a multi-academy trust currently educating around 2,500 children from the age of 2 to 16 in the town of Melton Mowbray and surrounding villages in the Borough of Melton. The MET currently has one secondary school, five primary schools and one pre-school; with potential numerical and geographical growth in the future.
Melton Mowbray is a rural market town in Leicestershire which is easily commutable from Grantham, Leicester, Loughborough, Nottingham and Oakham.
The MET has a central support services team, with staff managing Estates, Finance, HR, IT and Operations, across our schools. The central team are based at offices within John Ferneley College in Melton Mowbray.
The remuneration package includes a competitive salary, contributory public-sector pension scheme and a generous annual leave entitlement:
- Actual Salary £7,071.63 per annum in the first year (£4.30 per hour – National Minimum Wage for Apprentices) -rising in the second year to age related National Minimum Wage/National Living Wage).

- 5.44 weeks paid holiday entitlement rising to 6.44 weeks after 5 years’ continuous service
