New Vacancy- Science Technician
We are looking to appoint a Science Technician on a permanent basis at John Ferneley College.
We are seeking to recruit a Science Technician to work at John Ferneley College, working 32.50 hours per week (8:30am -3:30pm), Monday – Friday, term time only plus the 5 INSET days (39 weeks).
We wish to appoint a Science Technician to join our team supporting practical experiments and demonstrations within the science department.
You will have knowledge of COSHH regulations in relation to the handling and storage of chemicals. You will be able to work both on your own initiative and as part of a team. It is essential that you will have GCSE Science, English and Maths at Grade C or above, or equivalent, and have a knowledge of safeguarding, health and safety, behaviour and child protection policies. A first aid qualification would be desirable.
The successful applicant will have good subject knowledge and a passion for science, however recent and relevant experience working as a Science Technician would be desirable. You will have a strong understanding of the health and safety requirements, excellent IT and communication skills and have the ability to manage your time effectively.
About the Mowbray Education Trust
The Mowbray Education Trust (MET) is a multi-academy trust currently educating around 2,500 children from the age of 2 to 16 in the town of Melton Mowbray and surrounding villages in the Borough of Melton. The MET currently has one secondary school, five primary schools and one pre-school; with potential numerical and geographical growth in the future.
Melton Mowbray is a rural market town in Leicestershire which is easily commutable from Grantham, Leicester, Loughborough, Nottingham and Oakham.
The remuneration package includes a competitive salary, contributory public-sector pension scheme and a generous annual leave entitlement:
- Actual Salary £10.62 - £11.27 per hour - £15,335.72 - £16,274 per annum
(FTE £20,496 – £21,750 per annum)

- 5.44 weeks paid holiday entitlement rising to 6.44 weeks after 5 years’ continuous service
